Revealed
in Stillness.
Before the pattern appears, it is held in wax.
Veil takes its name from this quiet passage between concealment and revelation.
THE ART OF BATIK
A pattern
held in wax.
In traditional batik, an artisan draws molten wax onto cloth, protecting selected areas from the dye. Colour enters the uncovered fibres.
After dyeing, the wax is removed with heat, and the cloth is rinsed. The drawing emerges through the contrast between what received colour and what was preserved.
A pattern once sheltered in wax finds a new frame in silver.
MIAO SILVER & TEXTILE
An open contour.
A falling rhythm.
An open teardrop and sculpted border surround the black-and-white batik. The Miao silver reverse carries the pattern around the back; five long chains and two shorter side pendants extend the form below. The frame, sides and reverse are made of Miao silver.
Soft cotton contrasts with the relief of the reverse. As the pair turns, the textile, patterned back and suspended chains come into view in turn.
ON THE BODY
A falling rhythm.
A quiet presence.
The open teardrop sits beside the jaw, while the chains extend its line. The black-and-white textile gives the silver a softer centre.
A change of angle reveals the sculpted edge and the reverse. Cadence is encountered through movement as well as stillness.

Held in silver.
Open to a closer look.
Rooted in Chinese aesthetics, our perspective begins with the relationship between what is held and what is revealed. Space, contrast and the choice of a fragment give that idea a tangible form.
